VALLEY — One of the men who allegedly took part in a shooting on Sept. 1 in the Fairfax community has been arrested.

Montavious Demetrel Dawson, 20, of Opelika has been charged with two counts of assault first-degree in connection to the incident.

According to Valley Police Major Mike Reynolds, Dawson is one of two shooters from the Sept. 1 incident at the old Fairfax Kindergarten.

Reynolds said the identity of the second shooter is still unknown as of Tuesday morning.

Seven people between the ages of 15 and 24 suffered from gunshot wounds when an argument from the prior’s night Lanett-LaFayette football game spilled over to Saturday night. Police said while individuals were in the parking lot, at least one of the men pulled out a gun and started shooting.

According to police at the time, a majority of the victims and witnesses were uncooperative with officers, but a suspect was still able to be named.

Two of the victims were flown to local hospitals while the rest were transported by private car. The Monday following the incident, police say they learned all the victims were recovering and their injuries were not life-threatening.

In Alabama, assault first-degree is a Class B felony. If convicted, Dawson could face at least two years and up to 20 years in prison.

Reynolds said the case is still under investigation.
