Chambers County and Troup County remain under an enhanced risk for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service updated its forecast for Sunday’s severe weather event on Saturday morning, extending the moderate risk for severe weather further east. Moderate is four out of five on the NWS’ severe weather scale, enhanced is three out of five. However, Chambers County is just outside of the moderate risk area.

Threats from Sunday’s storms include strong, long-track tornadoes, damaging winds up to 70 miles per hour and golf ball size hail.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City wrote on social media Saturday that the weather event could be “historic.”

“The environment for this event is comparable to some of the most severe weather outbreaks in Georgia history,” the National Weather Service in Peachtree City wrote. “If you seek shelter outside your home, please check availability. Stay aware and stay safe!”
