Armed bandit strikes at CV Express

VALLEY — On Saturday, March 24, officers were called to CV Express, located at 304 River Road in the Fairfax community, in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers met with the store clerks who stated that, at approximately 9:45 p.m. a white male wearing a black hoodie and a black and white face covering entered the store and pointed a small semi-automatic pistol at them.

“The suspect demanded the money from the register,” said Major Mike Reynolds of the Valley Police Department. “The clerks complied and the suspect left the store in an unknown direction. There were no injuries reported.”

In other incidents in Valley over the weekend, Jacob Yarbrough, 27, of Valley was charged with domestic violence, third degree.

Valley officers are investigating reports of theft of property, fourth degree, on the 600 block of Highway 29; theft of property, fourth degree, on the 1700 block of 58th Street; breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft of property, fourth degree, on Middle Street; breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft of property, third degree, on Dunn Place; the breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and theft of property, fourth degree, on Lower Street and domestic violence, third degree, on the 1500 block of 32nd Street.

LANETT reports

LANETT — Eight people were arrested in Lanett over the weekend. According to Lanett Police Department reports,

Vandal Ross, 45, of Lanett has been charged with criminal mischief, third degree;

Delvin O’Neal Phillips, 35, of Lanett has been charged with failure to pay;

Susan Kay Nix, 50, of Prattville, Ala. has been charged with harassment;

Kalem Hunter Harrelson, 23, of Valley has been charged with failure to appear;

Karl O’Brien Scott, 31, of Lanett has been charged the two counts of FTA;

Takia Quaglieari Huguley, 43, of Lanett has been charged with FTP;

Brandon Dwight Rowe, 22, of Roanoke, Ala. has been charged with two counts of FTA – traffic, and

Cordeia Jaquez Williams, 29, of LaFayette has been charged with DUI.

In incidents being investigated by Lanett officers, the unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle and theft of property, fourth degree, was reported on the 1200 block of South 13th Avenue; theft of property, fourth degree, was reported on the 1000 block of North 10th Avenue; criminal mischief, third degree, was reported on the 200 block of South 15th Street; harassing communications reported on the 100 block on First Street; criminal mischief, first degree, and criminal trespassing, first degree, were reported on the 1100 block of South 7th Street; burglary, third degree, and theft of property, second degree, were reported on the 1100 block of County Road 299; criminal trespassing, third degree, was reported on the 100 block of Gilmer Avenue; criminal mischief, third degree, was reported on the 200 block of South 5th Avenue, and theft of property, second degree, and criminal mischief, third degree, reported on the 2400 block of 28th Avenue SW.

LaFAYETTE — Eight people were arrested in Chambers County over the weekend. According to CCSO reports.

Victor Gurley, 26, of Roanoke, Ala. has been charged with possession of marijuana, first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia;

Jeremy Cofield, 36, of LaFayette has been charged with trespassing, third degree;

Teddrick Whitlow, 37, of LaGrange, Ga. has been charged with FTP – child support;

Curtis Tomlinson, 27, of Valley has been charged with possession of marijuana, second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, FTA – DUI and FTA – driving with a revoked license;

Janie Edwards, 22, of Roanoke, Ala. has been charged with FTA – no child restraint;

Andrae Chambers, 50, of Valley has been charged with NWNI (bad checks);

Alvin Patton, 31, of Lanett has been charged with a grand jury indictment of violating the sexual offender registration and notification act and promoting prison contraband, and

Lacey Goodman, 33, of Hogansville, Ga. has been charged with theft of property, first degree.

WEst Point reports

WEST POINT — Officers with the West Point Police Department are investigating some incidents that were reported over the weekend including

theft by shoplifting on East 10th Street;

criminal trespassing on East 10th Street;

criminal trespassing on Peabody Road, and

theft of property at the Georgia Visitor Center.

OPELIKA SHOOTING

OPELIKA, Ala. — Opelika Police received a 911 call at approximately 01:07 a.m. CDT Saturday morning of a person being shot at BJ’s Lounge on Staley Avenue in Opelika. 

Upon arrival by officers, Opelika Fire and Rescue and EAMC EMS, 35-year-old Carnelious Richmond, of Opelika, was found inside the lounge suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Richmond was rushed via ambulance to the emergency room of East Alabama Medical Center with life threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the emergency room and was pronounced dead at 01:21 a.m.

A postmortem examination at the medical examiner’s office of the Alabama Dept. of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery is planned.
