Long-time incumbent Joe Blanks is facing a challenge today from James “Moto” Williams in a race for a seat on the Chambers County Commission. A Democrat, Blanks is seeking his third term. Williams is the Republican nominee and is making his first attempt at political office.

“I am seeking another term on the Commission because I truly want to serve the people of District 3 as well as the entire county,” Blanks said. “My family stands with me and supports me in this endeavor. I have lots of time and energy to devote to this office. I have tried to meet every voter in the district in my time in office. I am really interested in hearing your concerns. I will sincerely appreciate your vote and support on Nov. 6.”

Blanks lives in the Union Hill community in northwest Chambers County. He is married to Emma Aikens Blanks. They have one daughter, Jeri Ison (Jerome) and two granddaughters, LeAnna Ison Gillenwaters (Joey) and Lindsey Ison. Blanks is a member of the Abanda Methodist Church and is the retired owner/operator of the J & J Logging Company.

Williams is a resident of the Mount Olive community and has lived in the county for 54 years. He has been active with the Mount Olive Volunteer Fire Department since he was a young man. He and his wife, Chris Browning Williams, have been married for 31 years. Together, they have raised two sons, James Daniel Williams Jr. (Abbey) and Jacob Williams.

Williams has been an employee of the Alabama Forestry Commission for 28 years.

His experience as a forestry specialist has provided him an opportunity to interact with the public at all levels.
